Morris Michtom saw Roosevelt`s drawing and was inspired to create a teddy bear. He created a small soft bear and put it in the window with a “Teddy Bear” sign after sending a bear to Roosevelt and getting permission to use his name. The toys were an immediate success and Michtom founded the Ideal Novelty and Toy Co.[6] A teddy bear is a teddy bear in the shape of a bear. The teddy bear, developed in the early years of the 20th century by toy manufacturers Morris Michtom in the United States and Richard Steiff in Germany and named after President Theodore “Teddy” Roosevelt, has become a popular children`s toy, celebrated in history, singing and film. [1] Since the birth of the first teddy bears that wanted to imitate the shape of real bears, the “Teddies” have given very different indications in shape, style, colour and material. They have become collectibles, with older and rarer teddies appearing at public auctions. [2] Teddy bears are among the most popular gifts for children and are often given to adult children to signify love, affection, congratulations or sympathy. While the first teddy bears were covered in Mohair tawny fur, modern teddy bears are made from a variety of commercial fabrics, mostly synthetic fur, but also velvet, denim, cotton, satin and canvas. Commercially produced teddy bears, mass-produced, are mainly made as children`s toys. These bears either have safety joints for the arms, legs and heads, or the joints are sewn and unarticulated. They must have safe eyes that pose no risk of asphyxiation to young children.

These “teddy bears” must meet a rigid construction standard to be marketed to children in the United States and the European Union. Teddy bears have seen a resurgence in popularity when international do-it-yourself channels opened. Among the largest and best known are Build-A-Bear Workshop and Vermont Teddy Bear Company. The teddy bear name comes from former U.S. President Theodore Roosevelt, commonly known as “Teddy” (although he hates to be called such). [3] The name was born from an incident during a bear hunt in Mississippi in November 1902, to which Roosevelt was invited by the Governor of Mississippi, Andrew H. Longino. Several other hunters clashed, and most of them had already killed an animal. A suite of Roosevelt`s companions, led by Holt Collier,[4] grunted and tied an American black bear to a willow after a long dog race. They called Roosevelt and suggested he kill him. He refused to shoot the bear himself, and he said it was unsportsmanlike. but said to kill the bear to get him out of his misery[5][6] and the theme of a political cartoon by Clifford Berryman in the Washington Post on November 16, 1902.

[7] [8] [9] While the initial caricature of an adult black bear made by a man and a Roosevelt indignant with a lassos, had symbolic tones, subsequent editions of these cartoons and other Berryman made the bear smaller and cuter. [10] Early teddy bears were made to look like real bears, with large thrusts and beaded eyes.
